products and services

As a multi-disciplinary consulting business, we offer a range of services.

The first port of call for all assignments. Each one is evaluated by a senior consultant who then assigns it to the relevant division or assembles a virtual team of professionals for projects which cut across different divisions.

Our consulting group handles pre-purchase and pre-project advice, buildings archaeology, conservation plans and schedules of repair, development impact assessments and PPG 15 and PPG 16 supporting Statements for Listed Buildings and Conservation Area Consent. In addition, we'll give you a steer on mothballing historic buildings, recording buildings before significant alteration or repair and identifying and referring suitable craftsmen or materials for projects already underway.

 conservationworks:knowledge

This is our education and training operation whose flagship offering is the twice-yearly conservationworks:bootcamp residential conservation training school. In addition, there are quarterly Lime Days, Spring Clean and Autumn Ready half-day sessions and lecture soirees.

We will shortly be running "Maps and Mapping the Historic Environment" - a workshop explaining the uses and information contained in a variety of mapping sources, including Tithe, Ordnance Survey and Estate maps which is invaluable when tracing the origins and development of historic sites over time. Check back in April for the full range of courses, training programmes and educational events.

If you are a seasoned tutor in any heritage discipline, please contact us as our programme needs additional support.

conservationworks:people

Research indicates that until now there was no specialist heritage conservation recruitment consulting business operating in the UK. In a field where skills and specialist knowledge are becoming increasingly scarce, a knowledgable source of qualified candidates is essential.

Catering for all levels from undergraduates on relevant courses to board level and senior executives in the conservation sector, conservationworks:people mission is to find them for you - if they're out there.

Please email us in the first instance with your requirement or your CV.

We do not handle Public Sector heritage appointments (Conservation Officers) as these are adequately catered for by the IHBC website job section.

Set up to acquire, make conservation-grade repairs and then sell on small or medium-sized "building-at-risk" projects. Profits to be recycled to fund further projects and to support our Pro Bono scheme.

If you are an agent, owner or other property professional looking to divest an historic building, listed or unlisted, we'd like to hear from you.

This is the company's PR and Communications arm. Getting the point across effectively to communities and other interested parties in any scheme involving any historically important building whether listed or not, is so important that it is required by planning legislation.

ConservationWorks:Talk offers qualified and professional heritage communications services to the development and regeneration sector.

Architectural photography is not just about the materiality of buildings, it's about documenting the present for the future. conservationworks consultants can record your historic asset for archive prior to alteration or demolition. We can also carry out private commissions to record building detail before and after works, or produce a high quality colour illustrated professional Building History presented in a coffee-table format book.

                                                 conservationworks:probono

Many Buildings at Risk projects fail from a lack of qualified advice at key points in the project lifecycle. conservationworks: probono seeks to address this by allocating 5% of our consultants' annual hours to providing expertise free of charge to impoverished Building at Risk projects.

To qualify, buildings must be on at least one Local Authority, English Heritage, SPAB or SAVE Britain's Heritage Building at Risk register.

In the first instance, an email or letter of recommendation from your local Conservation Officer or recognised amenity society (Victorian Society, Georgian Group, SPAB, Ancient Monuments Society) should be sent to us, with the name and contact details of the project leader.

Listing Applications and Demolition Recording

We will also consider supporting other kinds of historic buildings work, such as providing support to local amenity societies making an application to English heritage to list worthy buildings in their areas, or the recording of historic buildings (usually unlisted) before demolition. There is a formal provision for the recording of listed buildings before demolition in any case. We would be pleased to take on such cases on a commercial basis. (see Consulting).
