No single company, regardless of ambition, could hope to cover all of the bases all of the time. Because of the unique way the conservation sector functions, the key to success lies in applying our understanding of its constituent parts to assembling the best team for any assignment or project for effective functioning and value for money.

In any given project there will be a number of interested parties, all with individual and overlapping roles to play.

  • English Heritage may have either a regulatory role where the building is Grade II* or Grade I, or an advisory role for buildings listed at Grade II.
  • The Local Authority Conservation Officer will have a watching or regulatory brief, as well as (if you're very lucky in your choice of local authority) an advisory capacity as well.
  • The instigator (the commissioning party, usually freeholder or leaseholder)
  • The architect who will generally be the scheme leader, pulling together and managing the relevant disciplines for applications for planning permission and listed buildings or conservation area consent.
  • ConservationWorks leads, produces and co-ordinates the required historic buildings input. We may commission specialist reports and advice from specialists whose competencies are complementary to our own.
  • And the building itself at the eye of the storm.

To assemble the best and most appropriate teams of professionals, craftspeople and specialist consultants, ConservationWorks is engaging in a range of key strategic partnerships with organisations and individuals with whom we can develop symbiotic relationships.

If you, no matter how small or large your organisation is, would like to investigate what a strategic partnership with us might be like, please do not hesitate get in touch. Some of ConservationWorks' very best and most highly-regarded professionals operate as individual consultants.

We are actively looking to create strategic partnerships with the following:

  • architects specialising in education or hospitality
  • surveyors
  • civil engineers
  • specialist building contractors
  • structural engineers
  • architectural historians
  • specialist trades
  • craftsmen

We have already identified a specialist conservation masonry and leadwork contractor whom we hope to confirm as a strategic partner in the near future.
