about
us

Our mission is a simple one:

to make it easy for you to do the right thing by your historic buildings

 Our business philosophy: commonsense conservation

Please believe us when we say that no project is too small. An early conservation-grade repair of a few
hundred pounds this year may prevent major works of many thousands next. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to do the right thing by your historic buildings by making our services as simple and straightforward to access and as affordable to apply as humanly possible. Our approach is to demystify the seemingly arcane world of conservation and deliver workable, practical and realistic solutions.

We firmly believe that conservation works.
From inner city regeneration schemes inspired and driven by one or more historic buildings at their core to preventing decay with the timely renewal of a rainwater downpipe, the conservation message is clear. It's cheaper, quicker, less messy and altogether more responsible to take considered, informed, appropriate action.

Employing only hybrid consultants with previous successful careers in the non-heritage sector, we offer a unique blend of robust commercial realism and practical conservation expertise. All Lead Consultants (Senior or Principal) are qualified in heritage conservation to post-graduate Diploma or MSc degree level.

Our staff policy means that clients will find themselves dealing with an historic buildings consultant who is not only familiar with current conservation thinking and practice but the particular requirements of their field.

As specialists in the education, hospitality and offices sectors, we can demonstrate a familiarity with the NMSBS, HMO, DDA, Fire Regs or other legislation which may be driving a requirement for alterations to your buildings.

Our objective is always to provide the optimum solution to any conservation project,
balancing the needs of the client with proper conservation of the building.

We hope that by working with us on your next historic building project,
our enthusiasm and committment will rub off on you.....
and your staff, pupils/students, neighbours, customers, clients,
suppliers, the public and anyone else who comes into your building.

domestic owner/occupiers

For home owners living in historic or listed buildings who've found their way here from a websearch, we can recommend membership of the SPAB which has a telephone helpline for practical guidance and help, as well as its famous Homeowners Weekends.

In the first instance you should contact your local authority conservation officer in the planning department at the town hall nearest you.

In addition, there is a lively and knowledgeable forum on the Period Property website where fellow homeowners, conservation officers, structural engineers and conservation surveyors offer their advice freely and sympathetically. Be sure before acting on advice that the person posting there knows what they're talking about. If in doubt, check with a qualified professional first.

* an homage to Marianne Suhr, who rounds off lectures with
a slide showing a road traffic sign which reads "Cement Works"
and to which she replies with perfect timing:
"No, it doesn't!". Thanks Marianne.
